In this paper we present a case of a patient with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis on the waiting list for liver transplantation with portal hypertension that’s develops an acute variceal bleeding, as well as the diagnostic and therapeutic measures taken, stressing the role of the derivation transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic approach (TIPS). Is also carried out an update on the clinical course of cirrhosis and the new staging of it.
