Abstract

PULIDO ACOSTA, Federico  and  HERRERA CLAVERO, Francisco. THE INFLUENCE OF EMOTIONS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. Cienc. Psicol. [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.1, pp.29-39. ISSN 1688-4094.  https://doi.org/10.22235/cp.v11i2.1344.

The objective of this work is to reflect the types of Fear, Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Academic Achievement (AA,) and the influence over each other, of students in the city of Ceuta. We focused on 1186 participants; 42.2% boys and 57.8% girls; of which 58.9% are Muslims and 41.1% Christians. The techniques used are the FSSC-II, adapted by Ascensio, et al. (2012), the Matesanz (2006) adaptation of FSS, a similar adaptation of Mayer et al. (2009) MSCEIT, as well as the student’s grades. The results show medium levels of Fear and AA and medium to high of EI. These are influenced by age, gender, customs/religion and socioeconomic and cultural status. We found a relationship between EI and AA, which increases when EI levels are higher. We have also found a negative relationship between Fear and EI and between Fear and AA.

Keywords : emotion; fear; emotional intelligence; academic achievement; pluricultural context.
