Objectives: to characterize the judicial processes refering to PA coming from family courts, childhood and youth court of Porto Alegre and civil chamber of the court of justice of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Such characterization includes the profiles of the children and their parents, and information regarding the processes to comprehend the PA situation. Methods: Descriptive documental analysis of 14 judicial processes involving 16 children. Results: 87.5% of the parents were already divorced; in 37.5%, the mother had the custody; in 71.43% the alienator identified was the mother and in 21.43% it was the father. Conclusions: not always is the PA the complaint that initiates the process. PA is a form of psychological violence and may have a negative effect in the development of children and adolescents
