The Burnout Syndrome is a response to chronic job stress. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of this syndrome in a sample of teacher in Montevideo. The sample was no probabilistic, composed of 71 primary teachers from 4 schools in Montevideo (Uruguay). The levels of burnout were evaluated by “Cuestionario para la Evaluación del Síndrome de Quemarse por el Trabajo” (CESQT, Gil-Monte, 2011) (Spanish Burnout Inventory) main version (Gil-Monte, 2011). The percentage of participants who showed the presence of the syndrome was 15 teachers (Profile 1) (21.4%), and 1 (1.4%) teacher (Profile 2) affected by higt feelings of Guilt. The highest level was Psychological exhaustion 28.2% and Indolence 17.1%. Teachers affected by burnout-SQT- are mostly between 41 to 50 years (58%), 24% are married or living with a partner whereas 25% are unmarried; 40% have been teaching between 21 to 25 years. Findings and study limitations are discussed and it is suggested as an input to consider in intervention programs in our country
