Abstract: The present study seeks to deepen in affect regulation and its impact on the organization of personality, from a psychoanalytical perspective, based on both conceptual and empirical research. A qualitative-quantitative design was employed, on a sample of 82 montevidean children, belonging to three different socio-economic groups (low, medium and high) with a mean age of 6.2 years; 64% of them were males. The study showed a high prevalence of emotionally dysregulated children (18.9%), from the most disadvantaged socioeconomic environment (78.5%) part of single parent families, with background of psychiatric disorders.According to this thesis, emotional dysregulation is associated with important developmental disturbances related specially to sleep, learning processes and the acquisition of skills and empathy.Children with emotional dysregulation show very low positive affect and practically do not display any signs of fear or sadness both while playing and in their psychophysiological reactions
