Abstract

PIRIZ, Héctor et al. Acupuntura: efecto analgésico agudo en pacientes con dolor osteoarticular. Anest Analg Reanim [online]. 2013, vol.26, n.2, pp.5-5. ISSN 1688-1273.

Objective A descriptive longitudinal study was performed to assess the acute analgesic effect of acupuncture in patients with chronic ostheoartritic pain. Methodology Patients with lumbar and cervical discogenic pain were treated with acupuncture during 2012 in CUDAM. Utilizing the Verbal Numeric Scale the intensity of pain was registered before and 45 to 60 minutes after acupuncture was applied. 30 x 3 mm acupuncture needles were inserted by intradermal technique in traditional acupuncture points and Trigger Points, both identified by manual palpation. Results Thirty eight (38) patients between 21 to 71 years old were monthly treated with acupuncture from January to November achieving a total of 791 procedures.   Conclusions Acupuncture showed an acute analgesic effect in patients with chronic ostheoartritic pain, with a significant reduction of pain intensity utilizing the Verbal Numeric Scale.
