GRUNBERG, Gustavo; DIAZ, Julio  y  VIEITO, Virginia. Estudio de morbilidad anestésica en las primeras 24 horas del posoperatorio. Anest Analg Reanim [online]. 2005, vol.20, n.1, pp.12-20. ISSN 1688-1273.

summary Anesthesia has its own mortality and morbidity independent of surgery. The quantification of these complications allows determining the anesthetic risk. objective To determine in a sample of surgical patients the morbility associated to the anesthetic practice in the first 24 hours postoperatively. methods A prospective study of 184 surgical patients between 15 and 81 years was carried out, operated on general or regional anesthesia, evaluated at 24 hours after surgery by means of a standardized questionnaire consigning a series of anesthetic complications. results 61 patients (33.2%) did not present any complication. The most frequent complications found were severe pain and nausea/vomiting in equal percentage (23.4%). Female patients had 1.56 complications per patient, and male patients had 1.06 (p<0.05). General anesthesia had 1.49 complications per patient and local/regional anesthesia had 1.28 (p>0.05). conclusions The global incidence of complications was similar to other studies, but the frequency of severe pain was high, according to the present international criteria. The incidence of complications was higher in female patients and in patients operated on general anesthesia.
