RODRIGUEZ, Mariana; DE MARIA, Manuela y MORAES, Mario. Late neonatal sepsis and cellulitis-adenitis syndrome of the face due to Streptococcus agalactiae. Clinical case report. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2025, vol.96, n.2, e312. Epub 01-Dic-2025. ISSN 0004-0584. https://doi.org/10.31134/ap.96.29.
The cellulitis-adenitis syndrome is an unusual clinical presentation of late neonatal sepsis by group B Streptococcus or Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS). It is a systemic infectious process with local manifestations, with frequent involvement of the central nervous system.
The affected region is usually the face and neck, with less common involvement of the inguinal region.
We present the clinical case of an extreme preterm newborn of 27 weeks of gestational age, who presented at one month of life with late GBS sepsis, with adenitis syndrome and cellulitis of the face. After medical and surgical treatment, she presented good evolution.
