Pectus excavatum (PEX) is a deformation of the chest wall caused by an alteration of the costal cartilages with the consequent collapse of the sternum. Historically it was classified as a solely aesthetic or cosmetic defect; however, in recent years, new study methods have been developed to assess the repercussions of this pathology, with an increasing number of bibliography showing important functional repercussions. An update of the psychosocial repercussions of the pathology and analysis of the most relevant recent articles were carried out. These repercussions are extremely common, especially in patients over 11 years of age, and they may be so important that they may indicate the treatment of the pathology, which is why they should be part of the comprehensive assessment of patients with PEX.
