Abstract

The second most common umbilical cord anomaly is the umbilical cord cyst. It is linked to structural alterations of the fetus, such as defects in the abdominal wall and urinary tract. In addition, they are associated with aneuploidy. These anomalies are histologically classified into true cysts and pseudocysts. They can be detected by ultrasound as isolated or non-isolated, the prognosis varies according to their multiple or single presentation, and if the size is persistent or progressive, studies should be performed to detect chromosomal abnormalities; we present a newborn of 37 weeks of gestation who presented a true umbilical cord cyst previously detected by ultrasound at 24 weeks and at birth, without evidence of structural alterations, and the aneuploidies most commonly associated with this condition were excluded.
