Child abuse and sexual abuse are a violation of human rights and a major global health problem. In March 2020, preventive epidemiological confinement measures were taken to mitigate the effects of the disease.

The objective was to learn about the epidemiological characteristics of children and adolescents, victims of violence, assisted by the CASMU-IAMPP Violence Reference Team, between 04/01/2020 to 3/31/2021, compared to 2016.

An observational, descriptive study was carried out with users under 18 years of age referred to the above mentioned team. The total number of consultations was 87 in 2016 and 63 in 2020. Females predominated in both periods, 60% in 2016 and 67% in 2020. This predominance was more noticeable in schoolchildren and adolescents in 2020, being 60% and 89% women, respectively. Although situations of violence in the chronic stage predominated in both periods, the number decreased: in 2016, 90% and in 2020, 65% (p<0.05). In 2016, 77% were referred by the health sector, 8% by court, 6% by schools and 9% were spontaneous consultations. In 2020, 77% were referred by the health sector, 23% by court. There were no referrals from the education sector.

In both periods, in half of the cases, the aggressor lived with the child.

The treating pediatrician continues to be a fundamental link regarding detection and referral.
