Resumen

YORI, Fiorella et al. Subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn: case report and review of the literature. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2018, vol.89, n.1, pp.26-30. ISSN 0004-0584.  https://doi.org/10.31134/ap.89.1.5.

Subcutaneous fat necrosis is a rare, self-limiting panniculitis, which usually affects full term infants in the first weeks of life. There are several risk factors for its development such as perinatal asphyxia, hypothermia and meconium aspiration. Its complications are unusual, hypercalcemia being the most severe one among all.

The study reports the case of a full term new born that presented subcutaneous fat necrosis. The diagnosis was based on clinical findings and histopathological study. The patient improved with regression of lesions, without complications.

Palabras clave : Fat necrosis; Fat subcutaneous; Hypercalcemia; Newborn.
