DIEGUEZ, María Cecilia; CERISOLA, Alfredo  e  MORAES, Mario. Parálisis braquial obstétrica de etiología prenatal . Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2013, vol.84, n.1, pp.35-38. ISSN 1688-1249.

Summary    The obstetrical brachial plexus palsy (OBP) is the innervated muscle paralysis by nerve roots originated at the brachial plexus. The incidence is from 0,6 to 2,6 every 1000 live births. The most relevant risk factors are the shoulder dystocia, macrosomia and instrumental childbirth. OBP has traditionally been considered as a consequence of an excessive fetal neck traction. There are cases in which risk factors are not identified; and because of this, a possible prenatal cause is raised. The upper limb muscular atrophy and the signs of denervation on the electromyography, are indicators of an intrauterine brachial plexus lesion. Most of the research reports suggestive elements for a prenatal obstetrical brachial palsy cause, with no concluding data on it. The case of a newborn with brachial palsy is described in which clear elements of prenatal etiology are shown
