Abstract

BAZAN, Gabriela et al. El trabajo de parto previo a la cesárea protege contra la taquipnea transitoria del recién nacido. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2012, vol.83, n.1, pp.13-20. ISSN 1688-1249.

Summary  In recent years a significant increase has been observed in the number of Caesarean sections both in our country and around the world, reaching 50% of the births in many centres. This had a significant level of health impact, given that numerous studies show an association between ECS and neonatal morbidity, compared to those born by vaginal delivery. Transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTRN) is one of the causes most frequently found in respiratory morbidity associated with birth by caesarean section. Objectives: determine if the work of previous caesarean section birth is a protective factor for transient tachypnea (TTRN) of the newborn and get to know its incidence. Design: analytical study of prospective cohort. Place Hospital Pereira Rossell (CHPR), Montevideo city. Period and study: 1/9/2008 to 1/14/2009. Population: infants 35 weeks or more of gestational age, unique pregnancy without malformations and with live fetus, born by caesarean section, differentiating two cohorts: cohort 1: newborn babies by caesarean section without prior labor; cohort 2 - newborn baby by caesarean section, with previous labor. Results: the TTRN was more frequent among the caesarean section without prior labour (48/231) 20.8%, compared with the other Group which had caesarean section with previous labor (20/163) 12.3%. The difference was statistically significant RR: 0.59 (0.36-0.96) q: 0.028. Conclusion: the work of previous caesarean section birth could be a protective factor in reducing the incidence of transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTRN).
