Abstract
MARTINEZ, Claudia et al. Neuroprotección mediante hipotermia moderada en recién nacidos con encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2011, vol.82, n.3, pp.159-170. ISSN 0004-0584.
Summary In most developed countries hypothermia treatment has become a fundamental pillar for the neuro-protection of the newborn with hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy. In the neonatal intensive care unit at Duke University, moderate hypothermia has been applied since 2005. Hypothermia therapy is very limited in other countries because in addition to specialized equipment, it requires detailed management of the multiorganic dysfunctions, meticulous documentation of clinical information with patient care and control in following protocols. As a starting point and in order to facilitate the introduction of hypothermia in neonatal intensive care in uruguayan units, the evolution of 5 patients in the intensive care unit of the Centre Hospitalier of Duke (North Carolina, USA) is presented, assessing response to treatment with moderate hypothermia and its clinical evolution
