The Schools of Dentistry of the F.O. Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul UFGS (Brazil), and the Universidad de la República (Uruguay) completely fulfil the three essential roles of a university in their institutional project. The curricula have a clinic, epidemiological and social perspective that emphasizes prevention by working in interdisciplinary teams, providing accessible and universal health coverage. The implementation of maternal-child programs based on the most advanced scientific knowledge integrate an educational and preventional-assisting plan which covers three population groups (pregnant women, children and mothers), which are recognized as a priority for evaluating the programs impact both regionally and internationally. The maternal-child assistance in places such as the "Baby Clinic" provide an area for the curricular practice and for professional education through interdisciplinary teams
