Resumen

MACHADO, Maren K; GUALA, María José  y  PIREZ, Catalina. Virus respiratorio sincicial: identificación reiterada en niños. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2007, vol.78, n.4, pp.281-286. ISSN 1688-1249.

Low tract respiratory infections are an important morbid-mortality cause in children. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the main cause. This study describes children who had the virus identified after the first infection during the years 2003 and 2004 and returned with respiratory symptoms, being the virus recognized again. The main doubt was whether this was a new infection by a different serotype or it was a persistent infection by the same serotype. The stories were analyzed in order to describe the evolution and clinical characteristics. 8 patients had shared characteristics such as short age, severe infections requiring entrance at the ICU and mechanical ventilation. 4 patients left the hospital requiring oxygen and 1 died four months after the first infection. In the future whether it is a new infection or a longer viral excretion should be determined in order to improve the evolution and the attention of these children.
