Abstract

CHIESA, Pedro; GIUDICE, Javier; PELUFFO, Carlos  and  DUHAGON, Pedro. Mantenimiento de la permeabilidad ductal mediante el uso de stents: A propósito del primer caso en Uruguay. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2006, vol.77, n.2, pp.149-153. ISSN 1688-1249.

Summary Newborn treatment of congenital heart defects with ductus-dependent pulmonary circulation is based on the patient stabilization through prostaglandine infusion, followed by percutaneous and/or surgical intervention, depending on the primary pathology. In certain cases, an alternative therapy which consists of keeping the ductus permeability through percutaneous implantation of endovascular prosthesis (stents), which prevents the spontaneous closure of the ductus and therefore avoids the need of palliative surgery during the neonatal period, is admitted. The short-term results obtained through the use of this therapeutic option in an infant presenting a serious case of Ebstein anomaly of the tricuspid valve and ductus-dependent pulmonary circulation are presented. It is the first patient treated with this technique in our country
