Resumen

MOSCATELLI, ROSANNA et al. Índice de cobertura de la vacuna antihepatitis B en una población de riesgo. Arch. Pediatr. Urug. [online]. 2006, vol.77, n.1, pp.18-23. ISSN 1688-1249.

Summary Introduction: Hepatitis B is an important public health problem with high morbility. Since 1982 an anti-hepatitis B vaccine is used. In Uruguay since 1999 all children under one year old are vaccinated; and since the year 2000 all adolescents between 12 and 14 years old are vaccinated. Its use is also recommended for high risk infection groups. Aims: to investigate the Hepatitis B rate immunization in first year medical students; their knowledge about this disease; its prevention and the no immunization factors in order to improve the health in this group. Material and methods: it is a transversal and descriptive analysis of 441 first year medical students. Percentages and averages were calculated. The information was processed in the Epi. Info (6.04 version) program. Results: The results showed that 16,8 % were correctly immunized, 33,3% were incompletely immunized and 52,5% were not immunized. The main cause of no immunization was the absence of knowledge about the vaccine ( 45%), followed by economical causes (42%). 36% think that they know about the disease and the 41% about the disease transmission. 26% think that it is important to vaccinate risk groups. Conclusions: In our country one of the main risk group, medical students, are not well immunized. This is related to lack of knowledge about the disease, the vaccine´s efficacy and its cost
