Abstract

TORRES, Verónica; CARDOZO, Erick; PORTAS, Pilar  and  CASAL, Mariela. Cardiac sarcoidosis, a diagnostic challenge. Two case report. Rev.Urug.Cardiol. [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.3, pp.159-172.  Epub Dec 01, 2019. ISSN 0797-0048.  https://doi.org/10.29277/cardio.34.3.14.

Cardiac sarcoidosis is underdiagnosed; it may occur in asymptomatic patients or be fatal as a consequence of severe arrhythmias, sudden death and refractory heart failure. Immunosuppressive treatment can improve the course of the disease. Two clinical cases with previously known sarcoidosis are presented and in the evolution cardiac sarcoidosis is diagnosed. In the first case, the diagnosis was made by means of myocardial biopsy during valvular replacement surgery, and in the second case by positron emission tomography requested for suspicion of cardiac sarcoidosis, when presenting palpitations and sinus arrhythmia. Clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects are discussed.

Keywords : Sarcoidosis; Positron emission tomography; Cardiac magnetic resonance.
