Abstract

VALDIVIESO, Carlos Guamán. Patent foramen ovale and cryptogenic stroke. Rev.Urug.Cardiol. [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.2, pp.130-145.  Epub Aug 01, 2019. ISSN 0797-0048.  https://doi.org/10.29277/cardio.34.2.11.

The patent foramen ovale is a common structural heart defect in the general population. Its clinical magnitude lies in its association with cryptogenic stroke, which has been described in several studies. The evidence is controversial and to define the best treatment choice in each case, it is necessary to identify its role in the cryptogenic stroke and the risk of its recurrence.

Keywords : Foramen ovale, patent; Stroke; Echocardiography; Platelet aggregation inhibitors; Anticoagulants; Septal occluder device.
