Abstract

RAMOS, María Victoria  and  MARICHAL, Álvaro. Interventricular septum rupture post acute myocardial infarction. A case report. Rev.Urug.Cardiol. [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.3, pp.190-199. ISSN 0797-0048.  https://doi.org/10.29277/cardio.33.3.13.

The interventricular septum rupture is a serious, although infrequent complication of acute myocardial infarction. It is clinically evident as a progressive hemodynamic deterioration, after the infarction. Transthoracic echocardiography is the main imaging study for diagnosis, and surgical correction is the mainstay of treatment, since it has lower mortality than medical therapy. We present the case of a young patient with an inferior acute myocardial infarction, who presents this complication in the evolution, and was urgently operated, with subsequent recovery.

Keywords : Interventricular septum rupture; Acute myocardial infarction.
