Abstract

ANDRADE, Rodrigo; PEREZ, Verónica  and  SILVERA, Gabriela. Management of comorbidities in heart failure. Rev.Urug.Cardiol. [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.1, pp.43-80. ISSN 0797-0048.  https://doi.org/10.29277/cardio.33.1.1.

The objective of this review is to analyze, with a practical approach, the most important aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of comorbidities that frequently accompany the heart failure syndrome.

Despite the fact that comorbidities are almost constant in patients with heart failure, recommendations of clinical practice guidelines are based fundamentally on evidence arising from trials that exclude, in its vast majority, patients with comorbidities, thus generating a decoupling between the evidence and the real world.

The integral approach of the patients must be a priority objective since it contributes to improve life quality, prognosis and survival.

Likewise, the presentation of unpublished data on prevalence of the main comorbidities in the cohort of patients assisted in the Multidisciplinary Unit of Heart Failure (UMIC) of the Hospital de Clínicas is noteworthy.

Keywords : Heart failure; Comorbidity-treatment.
