Abstract

ROMERO, CARLOS E. Depresión y enfermedad cardiovascular. Rev.Urug.Cardiol. [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.2, pp.92-109. ISSN 1688-0420.

SUMMARY Depression is frequently associated with cardiovascular diseases. Although it was initially considered a consequence of the severity of the condition of patients with cardiovascular disease, especially acute events, it was later recognized as an associated condition, considered (but not definitely accepted) an independent risk factor of bad outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. Several psychoimmunoneuroendocrinological mechanisms explain the interaction between depression and cardiovascular disease. It is necessary to recognize and treat depression correctly in order to improve the quality of life, and probably the cardiologic outcomes of these patients.

Keywords : DEPRESSION; CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE; MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION; ANTIDEPRESSANTS.
