Abstract

SORBARA, Carolina et al. Gallbladder adenomyomatosis: a diagnostic challenge. Case report. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2026, vol.42, n.1, e703.  Epub Jan 23, 2026. ISSN 0303-3295.  https://doi.org/10.29193/rmu.42.1.9.

Gallbladder adenomyomatosis is an infrequent clinical entity whose presentation is usually nonspecific. It may be diagnosed as an imaging finding or through the histopathological analysis of the cholecystectomy specimen. Gallbladder cancer is the main differential diagnosis.

We report the case of a patient who presented with symptoms compatible with biliary pathology. During exploratory laparoscopy, an intraoperative finding was identified that was discordant with the clinical presentation, prompting further delayed imaging evaluation to rule out tumoral disease. Final pathological examination confirmed gallbladder adenomyomatosis.
