Abstract

MARTINEZ JUSTE, José Félix. Tibialis anterior tendon rupture in a patient treated with statins. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2025, vol.41, n.4, e701.  Epub Oct 31, 2025. ISSN 0303-3295.  https://doi.org/10.29193/rmu.41.4.9.

Treatment with statins, despite being very effective in controlling cholesterol levels, has different adverse effects such as tendon involvement. We present the case of a patient on statins treatment who suffered tibialis anterior tendon rupture. This case has the peculiarity that there is no other case published in the literature about this tendon rupture and its association with the use of statins. The relationship between statins and tendon rupture is currently controversial and is mainly supported by the publication of clinical cases such as the one described here.

Keywords : Tibialis anterior tendon; Statin; Tendon rupture.
