Gender may be considered a social determinant of health. Gender mainstreaming in health supposes changing the structure of organizations as well as the behavior and attitudes that may harm the general health condition of women, men and sexual dissidences. The research problem consists in assessing the kind of gender-sensitive health policies developed over the 15 years of Frente Amplio’s administration, and the progress made towards gender mainstreaming in health care services for individuals, and health policies implemented. The study aims to explore health policies within the National Integrated Health System in Uruguay, from a gender-sensitive perspective between 2005-2020. Below follow specific objectives: 1) To analyze the type of gender-sensitive policies developed within the National Integrated Health System during the period studied. 2) To make visible the political priorities in connection with the gender agenda in health for the above mentioned period. 3) To identify progress made and barriers found in the National Integrated Health System during this period to enable gender mainstreaming in health. The methodological design proposed for this study employed a qualitative approach with the triangulation method, using the results obtained from the content analysis techniques in the National Integrated Health System’s regulatory framework and interviews to qualified references.
