Summary Ninety years after, in the light of current knowledge, we review the protocol of an autopsy performed to a challenger to duel in the 1920 Uruguay. It was Washington Beltran Barbat's death. The study examines the protocol of the medical-legal autopsy performed at that time, when it was still unknown and had not been studied in the medical context. The medical professional actors participating in the knighthood events and the protocols conclusions are referred herein. We confirm the validity of the conclusions of the acting experts, as well as the ethical behavior of doctors involved.
