Summary Handling complex wounds constitutes a great challenge in the medical practice. Negative pressure wound therapy developed in the nineties has proved to be a valid option for treating complex wounds in the recent years. The present article comments on its potential uses, its action mechanism, the technique and its original materials and variations taking place in our country. We comment on a clinical case that shows the benefits of this therapy. We conclude that the negative pressure wound therapy was a fundamental tool of simple application for their resolution.
