Abstract

SERRA SANSONE, María del Pilar. Análogos de insulina: ¿qué son, por qué, y cómo usarlos en la práctica médica?. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.4, pp.266-276. ISSN 1688-0390.

Summary In 1922 insulin was for the first time used in a diabetic patient. Since then, pharmaceutical industry has produced insulin, whose action profile and metabolization intend to reproduce physiologic secretion of insulin. Insulin molecule has been altered by means of bio-engineering techniques: sequences of analogues were changed to obtain formulas with a fast action profile similar to postprandial effects and others of retarded action, imitating the basal secretion of insulin. The purpose of this paper is to discuss insulin physiologic secretion, the arguments for producing insulin analogues, difficulties of conventional uses of insulin, the evidences of its benefits and uses.

Keywords : Insulina [ análogos & derivados]; Insulina [ farmacología].
