Abstract

ROMERO, Carlos E. El síndrome metabólico. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.2, pp.108-121. ISSN 1688-0390.

Summary The metabolic syndrome (SM) is an entity that has been observed since 30 years ago but has increasingly become protagonist because of its prevalence and capacity to predict diabetes and heart diseases risks. It has been called using different denomination and its definition has also changed; we define SM as the International Diabetes Federation does it. Although its proper nature has been questionned, SM is a popular concept that has been growing in the medical and popular fields. Definitions, ethiopatogenia, prevalence and predictor capacity, management guidelines are discussed in this paper.

Keywords : SÍNDROME X METABÓLICO.
