SUAREZ, Liliana et al. Sobrevida de pacientes con cáncer de pulmón a células no pequeñas estadio IV. Posible beneficio de la quimioterapia en la práctica asistencial. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.3, pp.187-192. ISSN 1688-0390.
Summary The aim of the study is to assess survival of patients with non-small cells lung cancer, stage IV (CPCNP) managed according with standard treatment. All patients (n=86) carriers with CPCNP without prior treatment were assessed from January 1994 to July 1997: 71 male and 15 female. Median age was 61 years (range: 35-85). Treatment in 34 patients comprised chemotherapy (QT) with a una sal de platino, associated or not with radiotherapy (RT) (group 1); 26 were treated with track RT (group 2), and 26 underwent exclusive symptomatic treatment (group 3). Survival analysis was done considering treatment and other variables. Median survival time for all studied patients was 4,5 months (IC 95%: 3,0-6,5 months). Death risk was significantly higher in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3 (Cox model, p = 0,0002). Median survival time for group 1 was 7 months compared to 3.2 months for groups 2 and 3. Survival life for patients with stage IV CPCNP treated according with standard clinical practice was similar to results obtained from prospective clinical studies; it was longer in cysplatine QT based group.
