Abstract

IADE, Beatriz et al. Recomendaciones de la Sociedad de Gastroenterología del Uruguay para la detección precoz y el seguimiento del cáncer colorrectal . Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.2, pp.172-177. ISSN 1688-0390.

Summary Colorectal cancer is one of the three leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Uruguay. In 2001, the Uruguayan Gastroenterology Society recommended a special committee to revise international consensus on colorectal cancer early detection and follow-up to adapt its directions to Uruguay. The Guidelines on early detection and follow-up colorectal cancer designed a screening and follow-up program that divides population in four risk groups considering age, family and personal medical history. Techniques of screening will vary according to the group, fybrocolonoscopy, if possible, will be considered as first choice. Follow-up will be considered in patients with history of adenometose polypes, colorectal cancer or inflammatory intestinal disease. The Guidelines were put forward for consideration to a special assembly of the Uruguayan Gastroenterology Society.
