GONZALEZ-MOLINA, Julio. Educación, movilización social y abogacía para promover la salud. Rev. Méd. Urug. [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.3, pp.192-197. ISSN 1688-0390.

Summary The main objectives of health promoting (HP) are to promote positive health determinants ant to turn negative ones into positive; among determinants, life quality is the preponderant. Changes on life conditions as well as individual and collective participation in the determinant chain such as style life and health-care services must be taken into consideration. From a conceptual point of view, the Ottawa statement (1986) is still a key document to guide integral action in the HP field; in relation to practice, there is increasing evidence that shows efficacy of the diverse HP strategies despite many methodological difficulties in the evaluation. Health professionals have an important role to play in HP field both at individual and collective levels.
