ALVAREZ VIGNA, Mariana. Measuring intimate partner violence in Uruguay: a validation study of the National Survey on Gender-Based Violence and Generations 2019. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2025, vol.38, n.57, e319. Epub 01-Dic-2025. ISSN 0797-5538. https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v38i57.10.
Gender-based intimate partner violence is a significant issue due to its implications for public health, gender equality, and human rights. This research aims to verify whether the National Survey of Violence based on Gender and Generations (2019) is an appropriate instrument to measure GBV within the couple in the last 12 months in Uruguay. For this, a principal components analysis, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for each type of GBV (psychological, physical, economic, sexual, and digital) to verify the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. The results show that the survey is, in part, a useful instrument for measuring GBV in the last 12 months, but in the case of sexual and digital GBV it is not. In turn, for psychological GBV it is necessary to measure it from two different concepts.
