Resumen

FONTENLA, Manuel  y  MANTINAN, Luciano Martín. Anthropocene and Territories. The Challenge of Science in the New Era. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2025, vol.38, n.57, e316.  Epub 01-Dic-2025. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v38i57.3.

In 2023, the Anthropocene Working Group presented its final and formal proposal for the Anthropocene as the era to succeed the Holocene. However, in early 2024, the International Union of Geological Sciences decided not to adopt the term “Anthropocene” as an official nomenclature of any kind, at least for the time being. From our lines of research in territories of the Global South, we maintain that the importance of the Anthropocene lies in its interpellation across all sciences, highlighting challenges and opportunities for reflection to critically consider the present. Specifically, the category is useful for considering problems linked to extractivism, the environment and the socioecological crisis, as we seek to demonstrate with the presentation of our case study in the territories of the province of Catamarca, Argentina.

Palabras clave : Anthropocene; energy transition; extractivism; lithium; knowledge.
