This article aims to enhance our understanding of the social actors that mediate between the supply and demand of land for sale and lease in Uruguay. We argue that intermediaries play a crucial yet often overlooked role in driving the land market and are central to comprehending the ongoing land grabbing processes in Uruguay. Through an extensive empirical study involving in-depth interviews, statistical data, background research, and web searches, we propose that intermediaries in the land market: (a) form a network of actors with varying levels of hierarchy and territorial reach; (b) are key to understand foreign investments in land; and (c) consist of diverse actors with varying degrees of formalized institutional arrangements.
