WESZ JUNIOR, Valdemar João. Cycles of land grabbing in Paraguay. Analysis of the Brazilian presence. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2024, vol.37, n.55, e207. Epub 01-Dic-2024. ISSN 0797-5538. https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v37i55.1.
The objective of this paper is to analyze the cycles of land grabbing in Paraguay, with emphasis on the Brazilian presence. In methodological terms, in addition to a bibliographic review and the use of secondary data, was used information from 215 interviews conducted between 2014 and 2023. The results show that, in Paraguay, land grabbing by Brazilians is secular, but it grew substantially during the military dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner. In recent years, it is perceived that Brazilian producers are reaching new regions, as well as changing their profile and interests. In short, the current context of land grabbing by Brazilians in Paraguay appears more complex, versatile and diversified than in the past.
