Trust in institutions and democracy. The cases of young Spanish and Latin Americans

This article examines data from the Jóvenes en Iberoamérica 2021 survey, coordinated by the SM Foundation of Spain, which interviewed 13,500 young people aged between 15 and 29 from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru and the Dominican Republic between March 2019 and April 2020. The study aimed to measure the perception of these young people regarding the determinants of trust in relation to political and social institutions that constitute, in contemporary societies, the fundamental bases for the exercise of democratic life. The data shows, in general, a low level of trust in institutions among young people in these countries.

Keywords : democracy; trust; institutions; youth.
