Abstract

BOADO, Marcelo; REY, Rafael  and  VANOLI, Sofía. Social mobility compared between Maldonado and Salto (Uruguay). From 2000 to 2012. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2022, vol.35, n.50, pp.173-202.  Epub June 01, 2022. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v35i50.7.

The objective of this work is to analyze social mobility in comparative perspective between the cities of Maldonado and Salto, where we carried out social mobility surveys in 2000 and 2012. We apply the potential of loglinear analysis following, the proposals of Breen (2004) and Vallet (2004a, 2004b, 2017), and our previous advances on the application of the OED associative relations model. Analysis models data based on changes of structural, cohorts and education variables on social mobility. The results highlight the structural effects upon cohorts and education for social mobility. Education effect was weaker than expected.

Keywords : social mobility; inequality of educational opportunities; capital educational returns; Maldonado; Salto.
