Abstract

BLANCO, Cristina. Suicide in Spain. Institutional and social response. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2020, vol.33, n.46, pp.79-106.  Epub June 01, 2020. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v33i46.5.

The article exposes the incidence of suicide in Spain, based on official statistics, and its evolution in recent years. According to the World Health Organization and specialized international organizations, suicide can be prevented. Prevention can reduce the number of deaths due to this cause and the suffering generated in the survivors. Therefore, it is important to ask about the response of Spanish institutions to this problem, as well as the initiatives that civil society is taking on. The article offers an overview of these responses in the comparative framework of actions in European countries.

Keywords : suicide; suicide prevention; suicide loss survivors; public health.
