Abstract

DOMINGUES, José Maurício. Vicissitudes and possibilities of critical theory today. An ecumenical conceptualization. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2019, vol.32, n.44, pp.103-122.  Epub June 01, 2019. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v32i44.5.

This article aims at evaluating the development of critical theory and its situation today, proposing that it is resumed in bases distinct from which it is traditionally thought. It precedes the Frankfurt School, beginning with Marx, is plural and must go beyond its classical canon. The paper puts the theme moreover from a global standpoint, which includes Latin America. A sharper view of modernity, as well as the simultaneous defense of equal freedom as a criterion for critical theory and of its ecumenical character, shape its alternative perspective.

Keywords : critical theory; globalization; modernity; Marx; Frankfurt School..
