Abstract

ROJAS CABRERA, Eleonora. Mortality from sexually transmitted diseases in Argentina and Uruguay: some challenges for development post-2015. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.43, pp.121-140. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v31i43.6.

This paper analyses, comparatively in Argentina and Uruguay, the evolution of mortality from sexually transmitted diseases (stds) since 2000 in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Thus, specific mortality rates are calculated and analysed based on information from the United Nations. Although the general rate behaves differently between countries, the results show shared achievements referring the fall of the rate at the early stages, the rate due to cervical cancer and the 15‑44 year-old rate from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (hiv; in Uruguay, only in males). Conversely, they also highlight challenges linked to a rise in the hiv (Uruguayan women aged 15‑44; men aged 45 and over) and Human Papillomavirus rates (men aged 65 and over).

Keywords : Mortality from sexual transmitted diseases; post-2015 Development Agenda; Argentina; Uruguay.
