Abstract

LOPEZ RUIZ*, Osvaldo Javier. Management in international organizations: the business managing rationality getting into the un. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.43, pp.35-56. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v31i43.2.

This paper discusses, from a sociological perspective and a critical point of view, the relationship between international organizations of the United Nations’ System and management. We analyse documental material and interviews done in different organisms and agencies of the un in Geneva, to reflect about the new practices promoted by theories and rhetoric of management inside these organizations, considering them as paradigmatic institutions of a globalizing world. The issues about practices, values and the type of subject that is shaped and promoted there, are opened to some other areas of the social and put in relation “management” with the ways of conducting life and work in our present.

Keywords : International organizations - un; managerial rationality; bureaucratic ethos; life orders; Max Weber.
