Abstract

CRAVIOTTI, Clara. Dilemmas in development initiatives towards family farming:cheese-making producers in Entre Ríos, Argentina. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.41, pp.199-220. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v30i41.10.

This article analyzes development initiatives focused on small family farmers who make cheeses in their own farms. The network of actors who drove these initiatives, their guiding purposes and the issues where tensions emerged are considered. The analysis reveals the fundamental role of norms and protocols as foundations of the agreements or disagreements reached between the actors. Beyond their emphasis on technical aspects, such normative provisions involve different options for family farming: its strengthening as a craft production, or its passage to an industrial-type logic.

Keywords : Family farming; rural development; local agrifood systems; milk production.
