Abstract

CHAVARRO, Luis Alfonso. Scientific culture and political culture: breaking the gap between the two cultures. Rev. Cien. Soc. [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.41, pp.179-197. ISSN 0797-5538.  https://doi.org/10.26489/rvs.v30i41.9.

In order to define scientific culture as a culture, in this article it is investigated by its humanistic, anthropological and sociological senses, and from the latter, it presents a panorama of what is understood by scientific culture, to link it with the concept of political culture and democratic citizenship. After this, it is shown how this linking of concepts allows us to think of a rupture of the gap between the culture of the experts and the lay culture, as a condition of possibility for participation in contemporary societies in which scientific and technological development generates unforeseen consequences, affecting the rights of citizens in many ways.

Keywords : Culture; science culture; technoscientific culture; political culture; democratic citizen; experts and lay public.
