Abstract

FERRANTE, Carolina  and  DUKUEN, Juan. “Disability” and oppression: a critique from the theory of domination of Bourdieu. Rev. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.40, pp.151-168. ISSN 0797-5538.

In this paper we propose a critical constructive contribution to the theory of oppression sustained by the Anglo-Saxon social model “disability”. We revise its founding and current ideas, pointing out its limitations. Retrieving an interpretation of the theory of Pierre Bourdieu, we propose to understand “disability” in terms of domination relationships of domination. We justify the relevance of this approach from a case study, a qualitative research based on “disability”, almsgiving and modes of domination in the ii Region of Chile. We conclude by outlining some thoughts on the challenges for research “disability” as a means of domination

Keywords : Social model of disability; oppression; domination; Pierre Bourdieu.
