Abstract

OLAZA, Mónica. Afrodescendencia y restauración democrática en Uruguay: ¿Una nueva visión de ciudadanía?Afro-descendants and the restoration of democracy in Uruguay: how about a new vision of citizenship?. Rev. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.40, pp.63-82. ISSN 0797-5538.

This paper will show the visibility of the racial dimension as a novelty in the process of restitution of democracy in Uruguay, since the eighties. The largest amount of evidence to support the presence of ethnic - racial, and specifically Afro considerations, within the interests and commitments of the Uruguayan government can be found in 2005. These commitments and interests are linked to a changing international scene in terms of recognising rights, legislation, emergence of indigenismo and Afro-descendants. To these effects, the author reviews documentary sources and analyses the research carried out on the topic in which key actors were interviewed, such as components of the organised civil society and its representatives in the government

Keywords : Race; public policy; government; citizenship; Afro-descendant.
