BORRAS RAMOS, Víctor. Multidimensional poverty in Uruguay, 2006-2013: an analysis in four geographical clusters. Rev. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.40, pp.13-42. ISSN 0797-5538.

Abstract This article analyzes the evolution of poverty in Uruguay 2006-2013, considering a multidimensional framework, in four geographical clusters -Montevideo (capital city), towns of more than 5000 inhabitants, towns of less than 5000 inhabitants and rural areas- using for this household surveys. The goal is to determine the tendency of the poverty in a period characterized by economical improvements and changes in political orientation. The theoretical framework used is Amartya Sen’s Capability approach and the measure is based on Alkire and Foster’s (2008, 2011) methodology. The main findings show a reduction in multidimensional poverty among the four geographical clusters over the analyzed period. However, this reduction was lower than reduction of income poverty. Additionally, while the rural area shows the highest levels of multidimensional poverty, Montevideo shows the lowest
