Abstract

MASCHERONI, Paola  and  RIELLA, Alberto. Women labor vulnerability in rural areas: reflections on the case of Uruguay. Rev. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.39, pp.57-72. ISSN 0797-5538.

In this article we study the employment situation of women in rural areas of Uruguay in order to analyse the specific vulnerabilities they have to face in these labor markets. In the first place we make a revision of the background on the topic and a labor vulnerability concept is introduced. Then an analysis of the current situation of rural women is presented based on data from the Continuous Household Survey of the National Statistics Institute (ine). Finally, we try to make an approach to the causes of women labor vulnerability, starting from the results of a qualitative research conducted in three rural localities in Uruguay

Keywords : Labor vulnerability; rural women; gender inequalities.
